Alexic Rod 'Valkiria' on Univack
Deep, hypnotic, and thoroughly intricate, 'Valkiria' is one of the many pieces that ALEXIC ROD (the new project of Spanish producer Colombo) delivered on Univack last month. Still fresh in the memory of Tulum's early season sets, the tune has now been hand-picked by no less an authority than Nhii for his "Mystery of the Sun" chart, where it lands at number four.
Spanning several electronic styles, 'Valkiria' holds the careful attention of those who like their house music with character and shade. The track is more chord than drum, though plenty happens across its percussive work, leaving it low in level and beautifully open under its peaks. Little light works up at the top of the sound, maintaining its twilight feel.
'Valkiria' is one of four originals on the EP, which also features 'Marabu,' 'Ouazzane,' and 'Sidamo.' It arrives as part of Univack's recent run, the label having kept up a steady pace of releases since last year. Listen above.
