David Mayer, Hyenah 'Liquid Light' on Ulu Records

Leading his Liquid Light charts for the week, Hyenah shares the honours of production credit with David Mayer. The result, entitled Liquid Light, arrives on Ulu Records, a house record with an Afro tint, rendered at 121 BPM in B minor. There is an even hand between drum and tone, sparse percussion and a soft level with headroom to spare. The top end is neither bright nor dark. This is the kind of record that sits in a mix rather than over it. It might be the end of summer in Cape Town, but this track could hold a night together anywhere.
David Mayer, once heard, keeps a production identity that is recognisable across a catalogue of some 37 releases since 30 July 2012. His homes, in the main, have been King Street Sounds (six records), Get Physical Music (five), Stil Vor Talent (four), Kompakt (three). His most recent before Liquid Light was Instrumental Remixes, Vol. 3 (18 July 2025, Solaris Records).
