There is a strange, almost gravitational pull to a remix that respects the source material enough to slow it down. ANNA has done exactly that with Depeche Mode's 'My Cosmos Is Mine', stripping away the industrial aggression of the original and letting the track breathe at a hypnotic 96 BPM. It sits as the slowest record in this week's Melodic House & Techno chart, a deliberate, bold move that sets it apart from the peak-time energy of its peers.

The result is a masterclass in restraint. ANNA places the harmony out in front of the drums, letting the vocals and synth textures float over a plain, regular hit pattern that never rushes. The mix is loud and tight, with each element sitting close to its peaks, yet the top end remains shaded, giving the whole record a warm, slightly muted character. It is the kind of track that works best in the late hours, when the dancefloor has thinned out and the music can afford to take its time.

Kevin de Vries placed it 10th of 10 on his Metro Charts on 15 July, while Massano included it at fifth of 10 on his Theory EP Chart on 28 June. Both DJs clearly see something special in this remix, as does anyone who appreciates the art of a well-judged tempo change.
