Of the six organic house records charted this week, 'El Malevo (La Noche)' is the slowest, a 120 BPM trudge into the shadows. The record opens on a settled drum pattern and a top end that is dark, almost suppressed. It is a middling record, but in its understated restraint there is a kind of power. There is little give under its peaks, and the arrangement prefers to hold a line than to break into anthemic release.

'El Malevo (La Noche)' is a collaboration between Kermesse, Omeria, and Sinego. Kermesse has been releasing since October 2018, with most of his output landing on The Magic Movement, Sol Selectas, and Sounds Of Sirin. This is a record that does not beg for attention, but it will hold a floor, and in the right room, its darkness will feel like a secret shared.
