Mrak, David Lindmer 'Their Law' on Afterlife Records

Mrak and David Lindmer link for the new record, 'Their Law' on Afterlife Records. Released 28 June, the Extended Mix is filed as Melodic House & Techno and, while the track is still in Extended Mix form, there is no radio edit here; it is built for the floor, but it is also a record that rewards headphones, a rare combination in a genre where big rooms too often mean blunt forces. It follows Mrak's release on Realm Of Consciousness Pt.VI on 24 November 2023, some seven months ago, and it arrives at the height of the summer season in Lisbon and Berlin, two cities where the label's sound is as much a part of the landscape as the clubs themselves.

What stands out immediately is the harmony: it does more work than the percussion, a choice that gives the record a rare, luminous quality. The drum figure is spare, leaving space for the chords and pads to bloom, and the mix has been given headroom to spare, the top end kept dim so the melody floats above the pulse without ever feeling forced. It is a record that breathes, and it is no surprise that adam charted it at five in his BANGERS chart on 1 July. Five of the eleven records in that chart are on Afterlife Records, a sign of the label's current dominance, and 'Their Law' is a strong example of why.
