MYKONOS, 5 Oct
Romana, PAAX (Tulum) 'Alma Clara feat. Romana' on SCM

'Alma Clara feat. Romana', in its Dub Mix, placed 12th of 15 on Sabo's Yali / Afro Chooz Chart from 2 Oct, on SCM and filed as Organic House, as the Mykonos season nears its end. SCM described it saying, "Arpeggiated shakers, low toms, congas, bongos, and the occasional cowbell ensure that the dancefloor stays kinetic, while a more mellow undercurrent simultaneously makes it for easy listening."
Romana has released only once before, back on 24 March 2008 on BEAT Music Fund, making this Dub Mix a rare return to the catalogue.
The mix balances percussion and harmony, a busy drum figure sitting loud and tight against its own peaks, with a top end pitched between bright and dark. 12th of 15 on a crowded chart still lands the record inside the field as one season winds down in Mykonos.

Fluctuating in intensity through the thoughtful arrangement of melodies, a range of ethereal vocals in both Spanish and Moroccan Arabic from opera-singer Romana, and a plethora of organic percussion, Alma Clara E.P. is a testament to PAAX (Tulum)'s raw talent and the world influences upon which they draw. "Everything that surrounds us directly or indirectly affects what we do and who we are, whether as artists, musicians, producers or human beings."
