That Afro House classic 'Layali' by Stevie & SRG is a perfect example of how the sound can be an umbrella across all shades of House, and this current version, released on 24 January via Klub Record, is not a reprise of something previously heard but rather the natural progression of a sound built on the past while pointed squarely at the floor of the future.

At 120 BPM this is the slowest of the eight Afro House records this week whose tempos run from 120 to 123 BPM, and the key of C major (camelot 8B) pushes this one into certain late night, afterhours territory. The drums and harmony share the focus evenly, while the percussion is thin on the ground and the moderate, open top end is bright without being brittle.

Antoine Clamaran has it at number six in his Antoine Clamaran Para Para Chart, placed on 2 Jun, his selection a barometer of the sound that draws from the heart of disco and funk and carries those elements into current club culture.
