Tim Engelhardt, Maga 'Around' on Scenarios

There is a way of playing a record where the harmony seems to run beneath the groove and never to surface, and Tim Engelhardt and Maga's 'Around' is a fine example of that, a carefully managed record with a bright, lively top end and its peaks kept a long way clear of the ceiling. The hit pattern is plain and regular, the bassline moves with a steady pulse, and whatever melody there is spreads itself wide across the stereo field.

'Around' is new on the Scenarios label and first appeared as a Beatport exclusive on 15 March, making it the label's first release of 2024. It has been charted by Tim Engelhardt, who put it second on his "Alive" Chart, and by Super Flu, who placed it sixth on their "We, Adam and You" list.

Those charts land at the closing weeks of the Tulum season, and the record suits the morning hours after the DJ has taken the night as far as it will go. It is not a record that asks for much, but one that rewards attention.
