Agoria and STS release 'Smoking Mirrors' on Sapiens Recordings, with a remix from Mooglie. The original is one of those Agoria records that drifts along on a tide of percussion and harmony in equal parts, with no need for a track to be obviously 'the' hook. It does not follow a typical set of electronic music structures, but it still finds space to unfold, with its sparse percussive surface keeping the arrangement in a state of constant motion.

The Mooglie Remix on the other hand is more direct, drawing out the harmonies and turning them into a melody line that sits on a sturdy kick drum. The remix is modest in level, with the peaks a long way clear, so it has a pleasant, soft feel, while a shaded top end keeps it from ever feeling bright or brittle. It is a different version of the same theme, and the two sit well together.

'Smoking Mirrors' comes at the end of a long summer, with Lisbon and Berlin high summer in the rear view mirror. Agoria placed the record first in his Agorians Summer 23 chart on 24 Jul, a chart where six of the seventeen records are on Sapiens Recordings.
