Dino Romeo, Mikp 'Habibi' on Make The Girls Dance Records

What is it about the percussive layer of an afro-house record that does so much of the work? Dino Romeo and Mikp's new single for HUGEL's Make The Girls Dance Records, 'Habibi,' is a fine case study. The percussion is crowded and forward, squeezed beneath the melodic peaks in the mix, giving the record its momentum and its meaning at the same time. A bright top end keeps the whole thing crisp and shuffling. It is the kind of record that does its work without announcing it, which might be why it has found its way into HUGEL's own chart in consecutive weeks: it sat seventh in Vol. 14 on 20 September, then fifth in Vol. 15 on 27 September. Eight of the ten records in that latest chart are on the label itself.

The single lands in the closing weeks of the Ibiza season, with HUGEL due at Amnesia Ibiza for the elrow Closing Party on 28 September, a bill shared with Bastian Bux, Chelina Manuhutu, Toni Varga and Eats Everything. 'Habibi' arrives in its Extended Mix and was released 27 September 2024.
