Gledd 'New Roots' on Cacao Records
Cacao Records introduced Gledd's 'New Roots' by calling it "a masterpiece characterized by its functional arrangement, infused with the mesmerizing allure of African chants," filed as Afro House and released 22 March. The record was placed 10th of 20 in Nhii's 'Shola Charts' chart on 10 April, a list that also carried Sarkis Mikael and Nhii's 'Synthronize' in the Raw Main Remix on Sounds Of Khemit, at third.
Led by a thick run of percussion, the title track keeps its levels neither loud nor quiet, moderately clear of the peaks, with an airy top end that lets the chants sit forward in the mix, the label describing them alongside the melodic beauty of wind instruments. The EP's other half, 'Delekele', pairs Afro rhythms with an acid edge, rounding out a release built around rhythm rather than melody.
