Tagavaka 'Nadir' on Colorize (Enhanced)
TULUM, As the first weeks of the Tulum season settle in, the town's select few sound systems are being filled with Tagavaka's Colorize debut 'Nadir,' a track Sultan + Shepard have now placed sixth in their En Chart for the week of 12 January.
'Nadir' arrives on Colorize (Enhanced) with a spare drum figure and a bright top end, and is out in the Extended Mix; the release is the label's second of 2024. Tagavaka, a classically trained pianist from Scotland turned producer, whose most recent work surfaced on Songspire Records in December, leads with harmony over percussion. Effervescent vocal chops, silky strings and engrossing synth arps carry the weight, while the drums hold back and leave room under the peaks. The whole thing is layered and forward, but the top end keeps a sense of air.
"Nadir" arrives as Colorize's second release of the year and one of its three so far in 2024.
